The first round of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas will take place this coming 1 to 3 February, when France will play against China in Beijing at the Beijing International Tennis Center.

BNP Paribas’s presence in China goes back to the opening of its first office in Shanghai in 1860. Since then, China has become a territory in which BNP Paribas has a rising and strong position in Corporate and Investment Banking and has developed a mighty franchise in private banking. BNP Paribas is also developing its retail banking and consumer credit activities, in partnership with Bank of Nanjing, in which BNP Paribas acquired a stake in 2005. Finally, BNP Paribas is continuing to expand its activities in this territory with the opening of an office of Atelier BNP Paribas, its technology watch subsidiary, in Shanghai in 2007.

BNP Paribas, a partner of tennis in all its forms, became the title sponsor of the Fed Cup in 2005. This sponsorship is an opportunity for the group to incorporate the richness of women’s values, which are the values of the future, into its image. This partnership also enables the group to share its passion for tennis with almost all of the territories in which its conducts its activities. With more than 88 participating nations, the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is a powerful vector of communication for the group, which is present in 85 countries.

BNP Paribas’s commitment to tennis is one of the longest in the history of the sport. It reflects the lasting relationship of trust that the bank develops with its customers every day.

BNP Paribas and tennis
In 2008, BNP Paribas will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of its partnership with tennis. Since 1973, BNP Paribas has been actively involved with the sport and has constantly strengthened its commitment since then to support it both worldwide and locally, in family and school settings, and as a social activity.

As a result, BNP Paribas has historically been a privileged partner in all aspects of tennis: as an Official Sponsor of the French Open for 34 years, and a sponsor of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas since 2001, of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas since 2005, and of the BNP Paribas Masters since 1986, as well as other major international tournaments (WTA Bank of the West Classic in California, Master Series Monte Carlo, BNP Paribas Women’s Open in Strasbourg, Grand Prix de Lyon, etc.). BNP Paribas also supports tennis at a local level in France, with 550 tournaments, including the Trophée BNP Paribas de la Famille, various training programmes developed by the Fédération Française de Tennis, and Yannick Noah’s association Fête le Mur.
