Cardif announces new appointment in Asia – Xavier Guilmineau appointed Chief Executive Officer for the region

Cardif, the insurance arm of BNP Paribas for protection and savings businesses, is pleased to announce the nomination of Xavier Guilmineau as Chief Executive Officer for the Asian region, with immediate effect. He will be based in Hong Kong.

Xavier has amassed two decades of experience in the financial sector with over 10 years in senior management positions covering a vast scope of areas in the insurance and retail banking businesses. Prior to his current position in Asia, Xavier was Head of Central Eastern Europe for Cardif, responsible for the development of the Group’s business.

Commenting on the appointment, Eric Lombard, Chairman and CEO of BNP Paribas Assurance, said, “We are very pleased to have brought Xavier on board in Asia. Asia is a large region with diverse cultural background and each market’s appetites for insurance products are unique. His double experience in retail banking and insurance will enable him to bring added value and a large range of competencies to partners and to understand customers’ needs from an end-user perspective.”

As the life insurance unit of BNP Paribas Assurance, Cardif develops and markets savings and protection solutions which are distributed via diverse channels. Cardif started its operations in Asia in 1997. Since then it has been providing insurance services of over Euros 1 billion in premium to customers in the markets of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Cardif has also been making headway into mainland China through the setting up of two representative offices in Shanghai and Beijing.

With operations in 41 countries, Cardif enjoys strong positions in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Cardif’s roster of partners now includes more than 35 of the world’s top 100 banks. It has also recently been confirmed an AA+ rating from Standard & Poor’s.

Cardif holds stakes in insurance companies through joint venture agreements with banks and financial institutions in the region such as Shinhan Financial Group in South Korea, Taiwan Cooperative Bank in Taiwan and Thai Life in Thailand.
